[Mark4:35-41] Jesus Calms a Storm
Following things I took with me reading these verses today: 1. It was not only one boat but several [4:36]! 2. The boat was filling. When storms come and waves break into our lives it's not rare that our hearts and minds are filled with darkness. We feel like being drowned in the flood of hardship in everyday life or circumstances. 3. And what did Jesus in situation such as this? He was "asleep on the cushion" [4:38]. Let's survey this biological: it's impossible, isn't it? Pouring water on a sleeping person is the most effective method to wake that person up. Can the experts confirm this? They startle, don't they? So Jesus was in a storm "the waves were breaking INTO the boat, so that the boat was already filling." [4:37]. That means Jesus must have been drenched! How the heck was He able to sleep? Jesus here is an ideal for me again. He shows me that regardless how much I sink in the flood, regardless how much I get drenched, shaken, beaten, faith [4:40] brings peace into my life so that I can sleep eased, regardless how noisy and stormy it may be in me. 4. Jesus rebuked the wind and spoke to the sea and they knew who He was and obeyed Him [4:39]. 5. When Jesus speaks to the storm a great calm follows [4:39]. Peace... 6. "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?" [4:40] I don’t believe that Jesus said that as a reproach but with love à la "Why are you afraid? I'm here with you, ain't I? You don't have to be afraid. Just believe me and trust in me." Jesus, You are the best! You never fail to amaze me! Help me to live like You lived! Today the Holy Spirit somehow put "The Way Of Love" [1.Cor13] into my heart and let me realize something so logical but awesome again. You know we say love has a name and it's Jesus. That means this whole chapter could sound like "The Way Of Jesus", right?
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not Jesus, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not Jesus, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to death that I may boast, but have not Jesus, I gain nothing. 4 Jesus is patient and kind; Jesus does not envy or boast; he is not arrogant 5 or rude. He does not insist on his own way; he is not irritable or resentful; 6 he does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Jesus bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Jesus never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Jesus, my perfect love ♡ Without Him I'm nothing! Praise the Lord! |
